Attack of the 47 Cougars !

I was fortunate enough to be selected this year to be part of the ringling Megacon team .

We're chosen to collectively make a comic called "Meanwhile' , a collection of 2 page short comics from each member of the group .

My comic centers on a strange cast of characters i created sophomore year called the "47 Cougars' . They're basically a deadly street gang of old ladies that drive their cougar mobile ( the sourpuss ) around the U.S. searching for young teenagers to capture and make into slaves.

there may be a few more touch ups done to it , but this is basically extremely close to final. I'm happy with how it's turned out . This has been the largest scaled 3d illustration i've ever done , i enjoyed doing it a lot :)

This was a spot illustration on contemporary music for thiels class .We had free reign to choose our subject so i decided to do a piece on Bjork's new album 'Biophilia' . The album is a unique one as bjork released each song as an app for the ipad which can then be interacted with , remixed , etc... So i thought of each of the 10 songs as separate entities or children hovering around bjork , linked by Apple's technology.

Book cover assignment for theil . I chose to do " Crime and Punishment ' by Fyodor Dostoevsky , it's always been one of my favorite books so it was a fun illustration to do. Basically i just wanted to do something simple that depicts the main character , Raskolnikov , imprisoned by his own mental complexes , and also do it in a rough sort of sketchy way.

These puppets will be in my next 3d illustration. There names are (top to bottom ) Blank , frank , and Ash . Blank and Ash are two orphan characters i created a longgg time ago and have recently translated into 3d with these stop motion puppets. They're the main characters of a story i've been writing entitled "The Streetcar Children of the Slums of New York "

I finally have some time to post some of what i've been working on in my concept class. These are Layouts for a story I created called "VICTOR! " inspired by two of my favorite films "All About Eve " and Guy Maddin's fantastic movie "The Saddest Music in the World ".

It's a sort of love story gone bad between a rich middle aged duchess and her philandering airship pilot lover. Basically he writes her a letter saying he's leaving her for a younger woman and this starts a war between each characters empires. Victoria lives in Vargis , An insect like Utopia in the sky . Victor , her lover , hails from A bird like empire carved into the bark of a massive redwood like a coo-coo clock . I have sketches done of victor and his world but they're at a rough stage right now . Hopefully i will have a chance to expand on the concept art for this story on my own time

Every time i start a new moleskin i try to do something different from my previous ones.

For this one , my goal is to have almost every page injected with a new story i come up with on the spot inspired by the drawing on the side. here's 3 of the best ones so far. I like to think of them as roughs for possible future illustrations or ideas for new characters which leads to new stories.

Finally an update with some of the stuff i've been working on this summer . mostly from my sketchbook . The first five images are for a planned book/ side project i've been developing little by little for myself called "Friends in Leather Stay Together "

. The portrait of George Orwell was an Academy assignment to do a stamp of a noted historical person . In the increasingly control obsessed politcal climate we seem to be living in ,the writer of Animal Farm and 1984 seemed appropriate for a modern stamp.

This is the progress i have so far on my Computer Illustration Open Assignment.

The characters In the illustration are the main protagonists for a story i wrote awhile ago called

"The Streetcar Children of the Slums of New York " . The setting of the story is a 1960's New York Orphanage. This is an illustration of the Ash and Blank sitting on the rooftop of the orphanage with their harry friend Frank , a one time Coney Island circus performer who now works as check out clerk. He also enjoys knitting ...

This is the process for our ( probably ) final illustration assignment . the only real requirements were that it be done on at least 30 x 40 scale. I've been wanting to do a crazy panoramic environment for a while so that's the direction i went in . It's still unfinished and hanging on my wall but hopefully i'll get it done this weekend...

Process work on my Pulp Cover Illustration for Computer Illustration Class. The story centers around Veronica Red, a character i created last semester but didn't really do anything good with...
Basically she's black market organ collector with a leather fetish and a sado masochistic streak . Her specialty is in finding the youngest healthiest organs . no hobos, no junkies , no ageing sugar dadies with cancer ridden tissue , teenage lungs are prime real estate . It's grade A tissue or nothing now with Synthetics becoming more passable for the real thing everyday , only top quality parts make bank . So Veronica has pefected a system of college hopping across America ,touring campuses nationwide as under the guise of an innocent lolita .
Boys can't help themselves , familes love her . She strings them along for months gaining thier trust . Until she brings them over to her penthouse and eviscerates them before the turkeys done.

Holiday family packages pay well.

But Veronicas doesn't slice for the money , she counts herself as one of the few American's who can truely say "I love my job " .

Tryptic as it's meant to be viewed , in order :)

Tryptic on the Westernization/ modernization of China

throughout history , the last panel is meant to be an

exaggeration of China as consumerist trailer park rednecks. "America's True Patriets ".

I enjoyed using the format of the Tryptic as a way to visually display a progression of time and change , both obvious and specific. The compositions are made similar to drive home the visual pattern.

It's basically a goofy fun battle between two monsters in a crowded arena filled with other Monsters.

I enjoyed the process of this illustration a lot. i'm still not crazy about the final piece, so it's still being tweaked but overall i'm happy with it .

David Bowie (imagined) Concert Poster

This is the outcome of my latest computer Illustration . The assignment was to create of vector portrait using adobe illustrator ,so I decided to create a portrait of my longtime musical idol David Bowie. Throughout his career Bowie has had many stage personas ( Ziggy Stardust , the Thin White Duke , Alladin Sane, Halloween Jack ,etc... ) . So I decided to try out Bowie as a Satan / Demon character mixed with a corporate hell kind of theme , also fitting nicely with Bowie s career long suit obsession.

          I deviated from my original concept a little and ended up changing the illustration into a Tour Venue poster . One , because Bowie has unofficially retired from touring  so creating a fictional poster fulfills a certain fan fantasy in me , and two because  the theme would  hint at the idea of a concept and a look for the tour . Which seemed appropriate for an artist whos stage  shows are often theatrical and tied to a central theme . 

                    I really had fun with this project and I think it shows. For some reason every portrait i have done of Bowie in the past turned out less than stellar so i m glad i finally did a good one. Also I enjoyed working on something that dealt completely with graphic design . I think designing band / tour art might definitely be a interesting avenue to go into in the future .
